A detailed statement on the issue of women wearing contact lenses/ Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan

Questioner: May Allaah bestow His goodness on you, she says: What is the ruling of wearing contact lenses for women.

Answer: Contact Lenses (is to be worn) if there is benefit in it for eyesight correction, (for example) her vision is weak and needs to wear contact lenses like wearing correctional eye-glass if the vision is weak, and the same applies if her eyes have defect, she has defect in her eyes then she should wear contact lenses to remove this defect, there is nothing wrong with it, but if both eyes are in good condition and have on defects we don’t see (the permissibility of) wearing contact lenses because it is a form of abuse/misuse, and from among women who wears contact lenses which resembles the eyes of the disbelieving women, in blue color etc… and from among them who wears contact lenses that match the dress they wear, this is misusing it, therefore wearing contact lenses for correcting eyesight there is nothing wrong with it and if it is worn to remove defects in the eyes there is nothing wrong with it, if it is used for fashion or misusing it, this is the case which we considered not permissible, Yes….

About Umm Abdulazeez

"I am a Muslim who is upon the Qur'aan and the Sunnah and upon the methodology of the Salaf As-Saalih (Pious Predecessors). And that can be said in short by saying, 'I am a Salafee' " [Shaykh Al-Albaanee رحمه الله] ________ Sufyaan Ath-Thawree (rahimahullaah) said: “Indeed knowledge should only be learned for the purpose of fearing Allaah. Indeed, knowledge has been given virtue over other than it because with it Allaah is feared.” [Jaam'i Bayaan al-'Ilm wa Fadlihi by Imaam Ibn Abdil-Barr (rahimahullaah)]
