Voluntarily giving more than a saa’ for zakaat al-fitr

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked about a person who owed zakaat al-fitr and knew that it was a saa’, but he gave more than that, and said that it was naafil. Is that makrooh?

He replied:

Yes, it is permissible and is not makrooh according to most scholars, such as al-Shaafa’i, Ahmad and others. It was only narrated from Maalik that it is makrooh.

As for giving less than what is required, that is not permissible, according to scholarly consensus.

About Umm Abdulazeez

"I am a Muslim who is upon the Qur'aan and the Sunnah and upon the methodology of the Salaf As-Saalih (Pious Predecessors). And that can be said in short by saying, 'I am a Salafee' " [Shaykh Al-Albaanee رحمه الله] ________ Sufyaan Ath-Thawree (rahimahullaah) said: “Indeed knowledge should only be learned for the purpose of fearing Allaah. Indeed, knowledge has been given virtue over other than it because with it Allaah is feared.” [Jaam'i Bayaan al-'Ilm wa Fadlihi by Imaam Ibn Abdil-Barr (rahimahullaah)]
