“Whenever the Devil seduces man into something, the angel inspires him (man) to the command of His God showing the destruction of yielding to the enemy. The Satan comes to tempt man one time and the angel comes to support him another one. Triumphant is one whom Allaah confers victory and protected is one whom Allaah gives protection. Allaah also created for man a composed soul versus his ever-tempting soul. When one’s evil-tempting soul seduces him into committing a misdeed, his composed soul prevents him from it. Also when one’s ever evil-tempting soul prevents one from doing good, his easeful soul inspires him to do it. Man also complies with the evil-tempting soul and the easeful soul from time to time alternatively. It depends on what will vanquish and dominate among them. Maybe one of them can be overpowered and vanquished in an irreparable way and to the core.
Also Allaah supported man with light, insight and reason versus whims which prompt him to comply with the Devil and the ever-evil-tempting soul. When a man sinks into his whims, reason, insight and light curb and warn him. Because when man complies with his own whims and desires, he exposes himself to destruction and harms. Reason, insight and light warn man that if he follows his whims he would perish. Man sometimes yields to the mentor who guides him to his righteousness and runs after the guide of whims other times. So when man walks the route of whims, he will be rapidly attacked with his money and clothed robbed. Then such a man says: “Oh where did I come from?” But he knew where he was attacked and robbed. However, he continues to tread this road because its guide controlled and dominated him. He could have never controlled man if he had debilitated him by in compliance with and repelling him. But it is one who surrendered himself to such guide. He looks like a man who hands over himself to his enemy who holds him captive and inflicts upon him a painful torture without anyone having the ability to help or rescue him. This is true of a servant who lets himself be captured by satan whims, and his evil-tempting soul. Then he seeks salvation but fails to achieve it.”
