When the Scholar Criticizes an Individual What is Obligatory upon the Student of Knowledge to do?

Question posed to the noble Shaykh Ahmad Baazmool (may Allaah preserve him):

Q. If one of the acknowledged scholars criticize any individual and declares him to be an innovator, what is obligatory upon the beginning student of knowledge regarding the individual who has been criticized? Is he (the student) to declare the person to be an innovator and believe that the case is so or not?

A. Yes this is the case when a scholar who knows the reasons for criticism and praise speaks. When a scholar speaks regarding an individual with criticism it is obligatory upon the student to accept the truth from this scholar. It is not permissible for him to oppose and reject the criticism if the scholar is one who is aware and knows the reasons of criticisms and praise. From the likes of these scholars, Shaykh Rabee’ al-Madkhalee, Shaykh Zayd al-Madkhalee and Shaykh Ubayd al-Jaabiree (may Allaah preserve them all).

We have been tested with some of the students who the criticism has reached him from a major scholar and he (the student) says: “By Allaah I would like to verify (that which has been mentioned). (He says) I would like to see for myself. (He says) I haven’t heard from him this speech.”

All of this is not from the Manhaj of the Salaf. The Salaf, when they would criticize an individual, that was the end of his matter until he repented and turned back to the truth, also his status was not like it was before.”

About Umm Abdulazeez

"I am a Muslim who is upon the Qur'aan and the Sunnah and upon the methodology of the Salaf As-Saalih (Pious Predecessors). And that can be said in short by saying, 'I am a Salafee' " [Shaykh Al-Albaanee رحمه الله] ________ Sufyaan Ath-Thawree (rahimahullaah) said: “Indeed knowledge should only be learned for the purpose of fearing Allaah. Indeed, knowledge has been given virtue over other than it because with it Allaah is feared.” [Jaam'i Bayaan al-'Ilm wa Fadlihi by Imaam Ibn Abdil-Barr (rahimahullaah)]

First, I’d like to say that masha Allah, I’ve found your blog to be really beneficial. It’s one of my favorites :) May Allah subhanahu wa ta’aala reward you with good and grant you success in both the worlds! :)

The second is that I actually have a question a little bit related to this post. Could you please explain to me what an ijazah and a tazkiyah is? I’ve seen these two terms applied to scholars and students of knowledge, but haven’t been able to find a definition. They are both permissions from the scholars, right? Is there a difference between them?

    Baarakallah feek

    • Wa’alaykum assalaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu…

Im still searching on your question bear patient with me because the terms are used by muhadiths wallaahu alam.

:) I’ll update u soon, i know for tazkiya is purification and Ijaza is vacation so i need to search it on it on scholars terms insha’Allaah.
