About Umm Abdulazeez

"I am a Muslim who is upon the Qur'aan and the Sunnah and upon the methodology of the Salaf As-Saalih (Pious Predecessors). And that can be said in short by saying, 'I am a Salafee' " [Shaykh Al-Albaanee رحمه الله] ________ Sufyaan Ath-Thawree (rahimahullaah) said: “Indeed knowledge should only be learned for the purpose of fearing Allaah. Indeed, knowledge has been given virtue over other than it because with it Allaah is feared.” [Jaam'i Bayaan al-'Ilm wa Fadlihi by Imaam Ibn Abdil-Barr (rahimahullaah)]

As-salaam alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuhu

First, Ramadan Mubarak to you and may Allah subhanahu wa ta’aala increase you in eeman during this blessed month :)

Second, ukhti, I’m once again back with a question, I hope it’s not too much trouble? :)

It’s about the difference in moon sighting in different parts of the world. According to what I’ve found, the scholars are agreed that there is a difference in moon-sighting in different parts of the world, and there is an ikhtilaaf among the scholars whether the difference in moon sighting matters or not. Some say it does while others say it doesn’t.

I haven’t come across any notable scholar who advocates international sighting (like if Saudi Arabia sights it first, then the rest of the world follows), and in the fatwas I have read, the scholars advise local moon sighting.

The thing is, recently I was informed that the international moon-sighting concept has better proofs from the Qur’an, the Sunnah and the Salaf. So I wanted to clarify it with someone else. Which position do you think is the more correct?

    Jazakiallah khair :)
