A Husband Having Inappropriate Conversations With Other Women?

Q: May Allaah give you good, the questioner asks: Is it permissible for a woman to seek a divorce if she finds out that her husband has inappropriate conversations with (other) women and gives them gifts and meets with them?

A: As long as her husband prays and possesses correct ‘aqeedah, (i.e. the understanding that is based upon the Qur’aan, Sunnah and the way of the rightly guided predecessors, and a correct methodology), then she should advise him if she is certain (that he is doing such). (It must be certain) that the woman isn’t imagining this and to not accuse her husband with false accusations. So if she is one-hundred percent certain that he is communicating with these women by phone or the like, then she must advise him.

If he benefits by her advice, this is what is intended. If he doesn’t benefit from it and remains in his foolishness, and perhaps his actions will lead him to commit evil obscenities, then there is no problem with her seeking a divorce from him.

However, it is a must to take the proper steps, give advice, and look at what comes out of the advice. If he benefits from it, then this is the intent. If he doesn’t and continues in his indecency, then she has the right to seek a separation from him because there is no good in him….. na’m.

About Umm Abdulazeez

"I am a Muslim who is upon the Qur'aan and the Sunnah and upon the methodology of the Salaf As-Saalih (Pious Predecessors). And that can be said in short by saying, 'I am a Salafee' " [Shaykh Al-Albaanee رحمه الله] ________ Sufyaan Ath-Thawree (rahimahullaah) said: “Indeed knowledge should only be learned for the purpose of fearing Allaah. Indeed, knowledge has been given virtue over other than it because with it Allaah is feared.” [Jaam'i Bayaan al-'Ilm wa Fadlihi by Imaam Ibn Abdil-Barr (rahimahullaah)]
